ARCHAEOLOGICAL MONITORING OF VEGETATION CLEARING AT LOKO PAʻAIAU

Kalauao Ahupuaʻa, Oʻahu  -  Pono Pacific

This first of a kind project was a joint operation between Pono Pacific, the U.S. Navy, and community organizations such Hui Mālama Loko Iʻa, the Aliʻi Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club, and the ʻAiea Community Association in removing invasive vegetation from Loko Paʻaiau in the ahupuaʻa of Kalauao. Nohopapa Hawaiʻi conducted the archaeological monitoring for this project and worked closely with kamaʻāina in the area to share important information with community organizations and to answer any questions they had about the cultural history of the site from the archival research we conducted.
