A SUMMARY REPORT OF THE 2019 WAHI KŪPUNA INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Waipā Ahupuaʻa, Haleleʻa Moku, Kauaʻi  -  Kamehameha Schools

In partnership with the Kamehameha Schools (KS) Natural and Cultural Resources and ‘Āina Ulu Departments, Huliauapaʻa and Nohopapa Hawaiʻi, LLC successfully completed the 10th annual Wahi Kūpuna Internship Program (WKIP). This year, our program was held in the ahupuaʻa of Waipā, located in the moku of Haleleʻa on the mokupuni of Kauaʻi. The driving goal of the WKIP is to train ʻŌiwi and kamaʻāina undergraduate students in both the cultural and technical side of cultural resource management (CRM) so they have a strong cultural foundation, are connected to their ʻāina and community in meaningful and impactful ways, and have the appropriate skills needed to be well rounded resource managers.
